This week’s choice of Fairparker of the Week is bound to be a popular one – Danielle Lorkin
And in her words:
After moving across to play at MDNA I flirted with a couple of domestic clubs before finding my netball home at Fairpark, thanks in large part to club legends like Jenny Dennis, Sharon Veto and Rebecca Blias.
I’ve now played over 10 consecutive seasons in A GRADE at the same time as having 3 kids!
I’ve taken on roles such as captain and ‘assistant coach’ to help Jenny and hopefully I use my experience to be a cool and wise head on the court and offer some tips to our much younger and more talented players.
And while my off court contribution is not great, I do like that this nomination shows that Fairpark values what every player contributes on court and it’s nice to know at least one person still sees value in a 38 year old Mum running around the court.
But the best thing about this nomination is that I get to thank all Fairpark players for being a role model to my daughter, because every week she gets to see what it really means to “play like a girl”.
All of us at Fairpark are very pleased that the winner of Fairparker of the Week is Gemma Reid’Lazarus
Talk about coming through for her club. Gemma dropped everything to umpire a game at a moments notice and forever earned all of Fairparks gratitude. Definitely bleeding red and blue!
Gemma is also playing in our Open 4 team and has switched from defence to shooting this season. And doing a good job of it too.
Next time you see Gemma at the courts, make sure to thank and congratulate her! We don’t know what we would’ve done without her last week!
When people are nominated for Fairparker of the Week, I normally contact them and ask them for a little of their history with the club and I DEMAND a photo of them without Snapchat filters. This week, I so wanted to surprise the extremely worthy winner that we’re flying blind and I’ve gone with her Facebook profile photo – Giant Massive Congratulations to our Fairparker of the Week Piper D’Amico
Piper is a very special favourite of an awful lot of people at Fairpark. The first to put her hand up if something needs doing, an extremely talented netballer, super smart AND she doesn’t force hugs on people who don’t want them! She’s kind of perfect really.
I was blessed to win the Best Club Person the same year as Piper won the Best Junior Club Person and so I like to count myself in the same company as someone as talented and smart as this lady. At the present moment, Piper can be seen umpiring (working super hard towards her C Badge), assistant coaching, playing, filling in for umpires, and she also attends our Senior Squad Training like an absolute pro.
Piper is also assistant/aspirant Umpire Convenor, learning all the ropes so she can manage the umpires for every aspect of Fairpark. Piper has massive things ahead of her in all aspects of netball (probably life really, have you met her?!?!?) and I can only hope to be around while she goes from strength to strength. Fairparker through and through, her loyalty and dedication is a delight.
Next time you see Piper at the courts (and you will, she’s there from 8:30 to 5:00 on a Saturday) please congratulate her and thank her for all she does.
And from me (Madam President and all that), Piper you’re an outstanding human being, I am honoured that you’re with our club and I can’t wait to see all you do with and for us! x
It is with great delight that Fairparker of the Week goes to one of our very quiet achievers Skye Reid-Lazarus
Skye must adore netball! She never complains with whatever position she plays, she assistant coaches, captains teams and has even volunteered for umpiring.
A sincerely kind team player, with an excellent analysis of the game, Skye is an asset to her team and the Fairpark club.
Nominated and endorsed by so many club members, Skye is a little under the weather at the moment. She’s still out there every Saturday, encouraging and doing what she can for Fairpark.
Skye’s team plays at 12:40. Come down and cheer her on or next time you see Skye at the courts, pass on your congratulations and thank-yous.
